Mater Dei and Santa Margarita are two victories away from playing for state boys basketball championships, and they can move within one tonight.
The Monarchs, whose only loss was Saturday to Dominguez, play host to Mission Hills. And the Eagles are at home against La Jolla.
If Mater Dei wins, it will play Saturday in the Southern California regionals championship against the winner of tonight’s game between Hoover of the San Diego Section and Edison of the Central Section. The Division II game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
If Santa Margarita wins, it will play Saturday against the winner of Hanford of the Central Section and fellow Southern Section entrant Bishop Montgomery of Torrance. That Division III game at the Sports Arena would be at noon.

Your high school soccer coverage and Miguel Melendez are both horrible. Miguel does not follow through on what he claims he will.
Your front page: “O.C. teams play in regional semifinal games. OCVarsity.com has all the action in basketball and soccer. - 5:15 PM.” That takes a reader to: “Stay on top of basketball and soccer results all night.” What a joke. The LA Times offers timelier and better coverage of Orange County high school sports. You and Miguel are truly a joke. It is a shame.
