The site for Mater Dei’s next boys basketball game is  familiar one for people who have watched Monarchs basketball over the years.

Mater Dei will play Long Beach Wilson at Ocean View on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when the Monarchs play in a CIF-Southern Section Division I-AA semifinal. Ocean View’s large gym has been a frequent home for Mater Dei boys basketball section playoff games, Southern California Regionals playoff games, and even for some regular-season home games.

Santa Margarita also has a home game Tuesday, against Dominguez of Compton, in the other i-A semifinal. The site of that game is to be determined. If Santa Margarita’s girls basketball team wins its quarterfinal game tonight (Saturday), then a possible boys-girls Santa Margarita semifinal could be played.

Semifinals basketball playoff games are played at alternate sites, which are defined as sites at which the home team does not practice. They are not “neutral” sites, as the selected gym could be right across the street from the home team’s campus but a hundred miles from the visiting team’s campus. Nothing “neutral” about that.
