Division IV-AA Boys - The Breakdown

February 10th, 2008, 8:57 pm · 2 Comments · posted by ADAM MAYA, OCREGISTER.COM since 2006

Here is a breakdown of the top teams, best first-round match-ups, best first-round match-ups, players to watch, the bracket darkhorse, and an outlook for each county team:

Division IV-AA

Top-seeded teams:

  • 1. Jurupa Valley, Sunkist League champion
  • 2. Aquinas, Christian League champion
  • 3. Capistrano Valley Christian, Academy League champion
  • 4. St. Margaret’s, Academy League

At-large:

  • Joshua Springs, Agape League

Darkhorse:

  • Garden Grove The Argonauts might be forgotten about as the Garden Grove League No. 2 seed, but they were seven points from a league title and 13-game winning streak entering the playoffs.

County players to watch:

  • Josh Khim, Capistrano Valley Christian guard
  • Austin Wenger, Brethren Christian forward
  • Tyler Stowers, St. Margaret’s guard
  • Yaser Yousef, Bolsa Grande guard
  • Abdul Yousef, Bolsa Grabde guard
  • Tony Pham, Garden Grove guard
  • Abdul Akbary, Rancho Alamitos guard

Best first-round match-ups:

  • Brethren Christian vs. Mountain View
  • Rancho Alamitos vs. Hesperia Christian

County outlook:

  • Capistrano Valley Christian – The Eagles have won six in a row and appear headed for a showdown with
    Garden Grove in the quarterfinals.
  • St. Margaret’s – After winning six consecutive games the Tartans lost their next three. And then won their next three. Hmm.
  • Brethren Christian – Don’t be surprised if the Warriors make a run. They were originally on pace to win the Academy League, before some slip-ups midway through league.
  • Bolsa Grande – The Matadors won their final five league games to earn a first-round bye. They might be challenged by St. Margaret’s in the quarterfinals.
  • Garden Grove – The Argonauts have beaten a few higher division playoff teams so and should be motivated by losing the league title on a coin flip.
  • Rancho Alamitos – Victories against Pacifica, Beckman and Magnolia mean the Vaqueros have a chance in the first round against Hesperia Christian.

what is this!? This isn’t a breakdown of the CIF Div. IVAA Playoff Bracket! Any regular joe that reads the paper and do a little research could’ve told me this!

Hesperia Christian and Rancho Alamitos is a good first round match up? Apple Valley Christian went undefeated in league, and beat Hesperia Christian. The small- league powerhouse Apple Valley Christian is going to be a team to look out for. If they can get past the first round they will be an upset team.
