We made it in the parking lot quite easily as usual. It’s quite a scene …
Chargers flags all over the place …. blue tarps … BBQs set up all over the place … some people are already cooking up some good-smellin’ grub!! We always set up near this guy who has taken an old trailer and customized it into a tailgate trailer, with a TV in the back, a pantry, a grill. Really something.
And another guy is going through his routine — he has a bullhorn and yells “Who’s house?” And we all yell “Our house!” And he yells back “We must protect this house!” This will go on every 20 minutes or so for the next couple of hours.
Fellow Register sports columnist Marcia Smith wrote a piece about Orange County’s Chargers fans earlier this week, and in it she included directions to Qualcomm Stadium as approached from the north. Thankfully, her directions are not the route we take to get into the stadium. The fewer people who know of my route, the better!
So, here we are … in the “inner circle” part of the lot. We have our Chuckers game set up. There will be others who will join us later for the tailgate, and we will have two or three Chuckers games going simultaneously, side by side. Go to chuckers.com to take a look at what this game is. People stop by and give it a look and ask, “What IS that game?!?”
The outer ring is filling up pretty quickly — and it is only a few minutes after 10 a.m.
Weather-wise — there are some clouds, but none look like they are carrying heavy amounts of rain. We have a nice big tarp up, anyways. We come prepared.
Time for Chuckers!
