More on closed Freeway

October 26th, 2007, 2:06 pm · 7 Comments · posted by TODD HARMONSON, OCREGISTER.COM

Freeway League athletic directors opted to cancel Week 8 games and play a nine-game regular season schedule, Fullerton athletic director Julian Smilowitz said. The canceled games include: La Habra-Fullerton, Troy-Sonora and Sunny Hills-Buena Park.

That makes three leagues that chose to cancel their games rather than reschedule: the Freeway, the Empire and the Trinity.

come on dude think about it,its all about the safety of the kids.league championship or not its all about the kids and their well being!and the way you mis-spelled some words on your post, you need to be home working on your spelling! la habra will finish-4-0 troy 3-1 full 3-1 and both of them will need a coin flip for #2

Guess what, Fullerton lucked out by not playing La Habra. Fullerton will be dreaming of beating Troy next week to finish undeafeted in the Freeway League (can you believe that). The reality is that La Habra would have destroyed Fullerton if this game was not cancelled and the Troy/Fullerton game next Friday will be no exception. The Warriors will devour the Indians!

There are several upsides and downsides. For Fullerton this is only good. They will finish 3-1 instead of 3-2. For Troy this can only be bad as, instead of being 4-1 and finishing in second, they will be 3-1 and possibly end up in a tie for second. That means if they loose the toss they may have to play a first place team in the opening round.
This could be a problem for them now that we know they can be beaten. For Sonora this gives them some hope as they won’t have to play Troy and they will come into the La Habra game probably 2-1 (Thurs. Nov. 8) Thinking they have a chance at a playoff spot. Should make for a very interesting game. As for the other two team nothing changes. The one thing it does do is create the possibility of two team tied for last at 0-4.

“Dreaming that Fullerton will win on Friday” that is funny, Fullerton will put up a great fight against Troy, and I believe that there is a possibility that they might finish tied with La Habra for first place. Fullerton is used to playing difficult teams like Troy, due to their extremely difficult pre-season. Troy is not used to high instense games becuase they did not have the courage to play any of the top teams in the county during the pre-season, and that is why it will be a streetfight on Friday when Fullerton and Troy meet. Also, it was a collective vote this afternoon with the coaches on deciding on the fate of week 8, and everyone must all think of the health of the players and how much stress playing two games in one week will put on them. I think it is a completely un-fare decision to cancel all week 8 games, but it was the correct decision. But in this situation, Fullerton got lucky.

I wonder which way Coach Smilowitz voted given that his opponent was going to be La Habra. Well Coach, you may get in as #2 after Troy destroys Fullerton next week and then a coin flip will give your team the #2 spot. That’s ok, there will be justice in the playoffs!!!

I’m disappointed that La Habra didn’t get a chance to play Fullerton. Fullerton has a good program and we look forward to playing them at all levels (Varsity/JV/Freshman).

Speaking specifically about the JV and Freshman teams, Fullerton is the best competition we play all year.

La Habra also throws one heck of a tailgate party and the Fullerton game was our last opportunity of the regular season.

Here’s hoping Troy will win next week, bringing the Freeway League Championship home once again (assuming a 4-0 victory).
